Srinagar, July 17: In a first, a young entrepreneur from Srinagar, Ubaid Nazir, established the bicycle rental startup “Cieclo” with the intention of improving urban mobility by providing a low-cost bicycle-sharing service.
After graduating from the National Institute of Technology Srinagar with a degree in Electronic and Communication Engineering last year, the 25-year-old from Srinagar’s Bemia area turned his interest in cycling into a business enterprise.
“I used to enjoy riding my bicycle along the Boulevard route due to my passion for pedaling. One day, as I was enjoying my ride, this idea suddenly struck me. I pondered whether I may be able to provide others with comparable pleasure at a fair price,” he said.

He continued that he initially attempted to rent out his bicycle in order to test the idea’s practicality. “I did all the calculations myself, saw that the results were promising, and immediately got to work,” he said.
While discussing his venture, he said, Cieclo is a micro-mobility company that wants to provide bicycle sharing services to tourists and residents of Kashmir for brief periods of time and charges the consumers on a per-minute basis.
“The bicycles will be available for pickup and drop-off at several locations (Cieclo stations) in the Valley that are bike-friendly. We have set up the first point opposite Ghat No. 1 on Dal Lake, “he said.
He added that the guiding principle of Cieclo aims to support urban mobility in Kashmir by providing solutions like reasonably priced bicycle sharing programs. “Cieclo seeks to concentrate on sustainable solutions that lessen traffic and pollution,” he said.
