Straker Energy Inc, a leading provider of Asset Optimization, as well as Subsea Hardware Design, Fabrication, Installation, Intervention, Hook-Up & Commissioning, entered a contract in April 2021 with Worley to provide brownfield Hook-Up and Commissioning project management support for BP’s Mad Dog 2 Project (Argos).
The contract, which comes with an option to extend, covers the whole hook-up and commissioning of the Argos platform. The new floating production unit (FPU) has a capacity of producing up to 140,000 gross barrels of crude oil per day and from up 14 production wells. The Mad Dog 2 Project is a huge $9 Billion project for BP and is located in water depths of 1,370m to 2,200m in the Green Canyon area in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 190 miles south of New Orleans, Louisiana, US.
The contract scope spans topsides engineering and project management services, encompassing leftover construction work that was not completed at a yard in South Korea, commissioning of all topsides systems, preparing the FPU to meet all US Coastguard regulatory requirements, and working with vendors to make the necessary repairs and modifications to unforeseen failures of systems.
Straker Energy’s strong local operating center in Houston, Texas will execute the contract. This agreement continues the company’s track record of successfully delivering integrated engineering and technical services for BP & Worley. Ryan Straker, president of Straker Energy, said “We are delighted that Worley and BP have selected Straker Energy to be its contractor for this huge project. We are committed to driving value and efficiency for BP & Worley to further enhance and extend productivity across its assets in the Gulf of Mexico.”
“Straker Energy is proud of our accomplishments in the GoM region since starting the company in 2011, and this contract award further positions our business for growth and continued delivery in the area,” he added.
