Schneider Electric (SE) held the Innovation Summit Jakarta 2022 on Nov. 2-3 with the theme “Innovation for Sustainable Indonesia” as a space for the company to share the technologies it has to slow down climate change.
“We have done a lot of things ourselves using the technologies on ourselves to get on the path of 1.5 degrees to make our operations carbon neutral or get on the path of carbon neutral and we want our customers, our partners, to do the same, to deploy it, for our partners to be able to take those technologies and deploy them. That’s what we want to achieve in this innovation summit,” said Manish Pant, SE zone president of East Asia and Japan. He explained that the world is currently on the path of increasing the climate equation by 3 to 5 degrees. In order to bring it down to only 1.5 degrees, the world needs to achieve net zero by 2050.
The exhibition was categorized into four sections; the industry of the future, the data center of the future, the building of the future, and the grid of the future. The hybrid event was attended by more than 3,000 participants, with more than 50 speakers over two days. Much of the second day was dedicated to expert learning classes for attendees.
“Learning is intrinsic to our culture at SE. We believe in lifelong learning and we are never too experienced to earn. This is what the world has told us; that things that were taking decades, or sometimes even centuries, to happen are now happening in years and months and hours. Our only way is to continuously upgrade ourselves, and the best way to learn today is from each other and collaborating with one another,” Manish explained.
He is confident that the adoption of the technologies can lead to a more sustainable life. He explained that the three pillars that should be integrated to be able to solve the problem of temperature rise and the mitigation of carbon emissions are; to electrify energy consumption, to replace the current energy mix with more renewable energy, and to reduce demand through energy efficiency.
SE announced a number of innovations to support and accelerate the realization of sustainability actions. This includes the SM AirSet, a modular air insulated switchgear for commercial and industrial buildings that leverages pure water and operates without generating harmful greenhouse gasses. There is also the EcoStruxure Automation Expert 22.1, the latest release of a software-centric industrial automation system that is further integrated with the AVEVA System Platform, an innovation that reduces engineering effort by nearly 50 percent, minimizing training time, and eliminating quality issues.
“The adoption of software-focused digital technology in an open ecosystem, combined with electrification, the use of renewable energy will increase energy security, resilience and decarbonization,” said Roberto Rossi, country president of SE for Indonesia and East Timor.
SE is also actively encouraging corporations and individuals to integrate green practices into their everyday lives. Their initiative, #GREENHEROESforLife was first created to share the inspirational journey of its customers and partners in achieving sustainability goals and building a community for dialogue in finding solutions to climate change.
Manish revealed that 80 percent of the carbon that is generated is because of energy production. However, 60 percent of energy that is produced is actually wasted because of the use of fossil fuels, which is the bottom line of the challenge that the world is currently facing. He believes that the world is capable of moving onto the right path, praising policy changes by the government and tax incentives put in place to encourage green practices by corporations.
“Every country, corporation, individual, it’s a collective effort that we have to make that we are able to get on that path,” he stated. “An event like this, first redoubles the commitment that we have toward climate change in our sector, in our industry, and more importantly it says that there are solutions available. We believe that people are convening here to find the solutions to those problems. We at SE have those solutions and that’s exactly what we are showcasing here at the innovation summit.”
