RPS : Project manager supports Next Generation on the Sunshine Coast

While RPS continues to expand its offering on the Sunshine Coast, Senior Project Manager, Andrew Campbell is shaping the future of his profession and the next generation of leaders within his community.

Andrew has just been elected Vice President of Next Generation – a local project management practice group. The non-profit organisation was formed last year in response to the growing demand for project management expertise on the Sunshine Coast. The group aims to share knowledge and drive the delivery of sustainable projects.

He said it was an honour to fill the role. “Next Generation is a fantastic initiative for this region. It promotes our profession and provides opportunities to educate and collaborate to ensure we meet the very real challenges of project delivery. It also creates a sense of community for people working in project management on the Sunshine Coast.”

“While there are enormous opportunities for business in this region, it’s important that we invest in the capabilities and skills that are needed to fully capitalise on them.

“To deliver a lasting legacy out of this time of growth, we need ‘professional infrastructure’ to support the physical infrastructure we create.

“Professional bodies like Next Generation that educate and support the local industry to meet and exceed best practice are an investment in our economy and community.”

Andrew, who has more than 14 years of engineering and major infrastructure project experience in Australia and overseas, is also volunteering his time as part of Engineers Australia’s mentoring program at local high schools.

“Factors like Covid and the announcement of the Olympic Games in Queensland have seen huge movement to, and interest in the Coast.”

According to the Sunshine Coast Council, the population grew by more than 84,000 people between 2011 and 2021 with growth between 2016 and 2021 one of the highest on record. The Council said the forecast is for population to grow to more than 500,000 people by 2041.

Andrew said with that kind of growth comes demand for more and improved infrastructure. “We are seeing new housing developments, new road and rail infrastructure projects and a lot of interesting sustainability work in water management.

“Meeting this demand and building infrastructure for today and well into the future requires the best minds and innovative solutions. It’s an exciting time for project managers to utilise their expertise and ensure these projects are delivered with the professionalism the community deserves.

“That’s why I’m a huge supporter of the Next Generation and programs like the mentoring program for students. It’s a way for me to give back to the community and contribute to the vision we have for successful and sustainable development on the Sunshine Coast.”

RPS is currently looking for more project managers to join our Sunshine Coast team. Check out our latest opportunities here.
