Specialist project management consultancy P2 Consulting and the project management practice of PA Consulting have been named winners at the 2021 APM Project Management Awards.
Every year, APM – the UK’s association for project management professionals – recognises and celebrates project teams, individuals and projects from a broad range of sectors for their incredible achievements over the past year.
Among the winners of this year’s edition were two consulting firms: P2 Consulting (a London-based business consultancy specialised in complex project delivery) and PA Consulting (a global consulting firm with 3,300 employees, part of Jacobs).
Innovation
PA Consulting took home the ‘Innovation in Project Management Award’, for a project delivered together with Network Rail. According to the jury report, the two companies are “revolutionising the railway through the delivery of the Accelerated Innovation programme by employing agile ways of working and a bespoke delivery framework to test ideas from the front line, enabling the business to deliver benefits faster, progress ideas to a prototype concept in weeks rather than years.”
“The programme is already delivering benefits, with an overall benefit: cost ratio of 10.5 and the potential to deliver benefits in excess of £230 million. The programme has proved that taking a disruptive approach can accelerate the delivery of innovation for an innovative future for Network Rail.”
Other finalists in the Innovation in Project Management Award included: MI-GSO|PCUBED (project: Fukushima Reactor Investigation); P2 Consulting (project: PMO for a customer transformation programme at Selfridges); and a consortium of consulting firms including Arup, Copper Consultancy, Grant Thornton, The Nichols Group and Savills that worked on the Towns Fund Delivery Partner programme.
Contribution to the sector
The top honours in the ‘Contribution to Project Management for Small and Medium Enterprises Award’ went to P2 Consulting. In this category, the judges were looking for an SME organisation that stood out in two ways. The first was a commitment to positive and meaningful progression of its project professionals. The second was excellence in project management, demonstrated by a measurable track record of client results.
P2 Consulting won the award for factors such as its ‘T-Shaped Consultant’ model, its dedication to building a legacy of project management and best practice at its client organisations and its approach to developing methodologies for project management and ‘accelerants’ for project delivery.
Phil Rolfe, CEO of P2 Consulting commented: “We are over the moon to be awarded this accolade. P2 works extremely hard to leave a lasting legacy of great project management practice at every client and this award is testament to the hard work, dedication and rigour of our team.”
“For us, success is about helping our consultants be the best project management professionals they can be, developing the best methodologies for projects and ultimately, leaving our clients more capable project management organisations than they were when we started working with them. We are very proud of our contribution to the project management industry.”
Other finalists in this category were: 3PM, i3Works and Delt Shared Services, a group that works predominantly for its two shareholders, Plymouth City Council and Devon Clinical Commissioning Group.
