Dentons Opens ‘Venture Technology Center’ in Mexico City

Dentons’ operation in Mexico, Dentons Lopez Velarde, has opened a second office in Mexico City to attend to the growing number of technology companies that have chosen the Mexican capital as their operations base for Latin America.

Sergio Legorreta, partner and chair of Dentons’ venture technology and intellectual property practice in Latin America and the Caribbean, will lead the office in the tony neighborhood of Lomas de Chapultepec.

The firm is calling this office a “Venture Technology Center” geared toward helping clients navigate the constant, accelerated change that comes with the adoption of increasingly advanced technology.

“Dentons Lopez Velarde continues to evolve and adapt to the ever-changing needs of its clients across the region and around the globe,” Legorreta said in a statement.

Legorreta joined Dentons in 2019 from Baker McKenzie, where he was head of intellectual property for Latin America and global co-chair of the brand enforcement and anti-counterfeiting task force.

He has extensive experience in technology, media, communications, intellectual property and life sciences.

Legorreta has also assisted major technology, social media, fintech and crypto assets companies on strategic aspects of business operations from a legal perspective. And he is heavily involved in entrepreneurship and emerging company advisory with incubators, accelerators and venture capital funds.

Dentons lists 40 lawyers based in Mexico.
