CBI booked the four sub-inspectors, Sumit Gupta, Pradeep Rana, Ankur Kumar and Akash Ahlawat, for corruption.
Sources said Gupta, posted with the Anti-Corruption Branch in Delhi, was already suspended.

“As part of its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and other offences, not only in respect of those from outside but its own officials, CBI on receipt of the complaint, immediately registered a case, identified its three other officials allegedly involved in the matter and effected their arrests. Taking a serious note of this act on part of these delinquent officials, all four of them were dismissed from service,” a CBI spokesperson said.

Sources said the Chandigarh Police caught the four people late on Tuesday night after receiving a control room call. Upon realising that they were CBI officials, police handed them over to CBI’s Chandigarh branch.

All the four were posted in Delhi. The agency has also conducted searches at their premises.“Incriminating documents recovered during searches are being scrutinised,” a CBI spokesperson said.

On Tuesday night, the four CBI personnel along with two civilians barged into the office of Abhishek Dogra, a Ludhiana resident who runs IT firm Ocean Global Solutions in Chandigarh, officials said. They told him they had received a notice from the Interpol against him for supporting terror activities in India.

In his complaint to the CBI, Abhishek Dogra stated: “I was slapped repeatedly by two CBI officers who were in plain clothes. They threatened to implicate me in a case of terrorism. They demanded Rs 1 crore from me, and then forced me into my car and started negotiating with me. There were a total of six people. Four of them introduced themselves as CBI personnel. Subsequently, they told me to arrange Rs 25 lakh through my brother, saying he could come to Ambala. I did not call my brother. After some time, they directed me to change the direction of my car.”

Dogra added in the statement: “When we reached near Gate No 3 of police lines, Sector 26, one of the tyres of my car got punctured. Finding an opportunity, I called my business partner Sunny Verma and shared my current location with him. Soon, he along with some employees of our company reached the location. A scuffle broke out there. I, along with my partner and colleagues, ran from the spot.”

A senior police officer told The Indian Express: “The police control room received a call around 2.30 am on Wednesday about a fight between two parties near Gate No 3 of police lines Sector 26. By the time a police party reached the spot, one of the parties had left the scene. Four men who were found present at the spot declined to reveal their identities. After much persuasion, they disclosed that they were from CBI, Delhi.”

In the meantime, said this officer, members of the other group, from an IT firm, also arrived at Sector 26 police station, accusing the four of extortion.

“As the matter involved CBI personnel, we informed the CBI Zonal headquarters Sector 30. The four men were also handed over to them. A team of CBI from zonal headquarters seized CCTV camera footage of the area near Sector 26 police lines,” the officer said.
