Do you have a great start-up idea or an existing business you want to grow? Perhaps you just want to explore the idea of running a business?

Turn your business idea into action with access to advice, equipment and spaces to make it happen!

Learn from others who have started up, get access to office space and facilities to help generate and test your ideas. There’s also a chance to get up to £1300 towards your business!

Who’s it for?

• Growing businesses who are looking to boost their business or grow and take their business to the next level.
• Start-ups who have a business idea that they want to make into a viable business model or perhaps develop their small existing business.
• School/college leavers who want to be self-employed but don’t know where to start. You might want to use your existing skills to start-up, or perhaps you’re just exploring your options and ideas.

Each week they’ll guide you through a different aspect of starting up. From marketing to legal, sales and accounting, the 6-week programme is led by local industry experts who are there to share advice and guidance as well as answer your questions. An opportunity to develop your business idea, understand more about starting up and guidance on how to move your ideas forwards.

Parkinson’s UK Physical Activity Grants programme – deadline 10 June 22

Grants of up to £2,500 are available to activity providers, communities, networks, and organisations across the UK to develop new opportunities for people with Parkinson’s to become and stay active

Examples of the types of projects and activities that can be supported include:

• Expanding activities/classes etc. to include people with Parkinson’s
• Buying equipment that will facilitate or enhance activities
• Essential maintenance or replacement of equipment that will lead to greater participation or increased impact
• Facility hire
• Coaching fees
• Specific training
• Developing community activities that demonstrate a pathway into sustained activity
• Helping people to access Parkinson’s specific online support to become more active

The Anton Jurgens Charitable Trust

Grants are available to registered UK-based charities supporting socially disadvantaged and disabled people of all ages across the UK. 

When applying, please consider the following criteria:

• Only requests from UK registered charities will be considered.
• An application should not be made if the charity has received a grant from the AJCT within the past 3 years.
• The Trust does not give grants to charities supporting research, the promotion of religion, the arts and culture (unless these are engaged in the development of therapies).
• All charities that have applied online will automatically receive the outcome of their application after the Spring or Autumn meeting.
• In case your charity fails to be awarded a grant, you may submit another application for their next meeting.

Applications are assessed against the following investment criteria:

• Social entrepreneurship – the combination of financial and social added value
• Financial sustainability – the pursuit of a permanent positive impact.
• Personal initiative and personal commitment – to engender self-sufficiency and autonomy.
• Prevention – a structured approach to tackling social problems at an early stage
• Social involvement – the creation of inspiring examples
• Searching for meaning – creating awareness of the ‘why’ of our human actions and existence

Arts Council Investment Programme

Arts Council England is inviting arts organisations, libraries and museums in England to become a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) or Investment Principles Support Organisation (IPSO).

Successful organisations will receive regular funding aimed at implementing the Arts Council Strategy 2020-2030.

There is no minimum turnover for organisations that wish to apply, but the minimum grant award is £50k per year. It is mandatory for new applicants to have had a conversation with the Arts Council before submitting an application.

The deadline for applications is 18 May 2022.

Volunteer and Intern Opportunities at the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park

You may be a student looking to complete a work based learning component of your course. You may be interested in pursuing a career in animal husbandry and want to gain hands-on experience. Or, you may just be looking for something new and fun to do with your spare time!

The Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park can offer varied time commitment placements to volunteers, ranging from one day per week up to a six-month block placement.

Volunteers will assist their animal care team with the husbandry and care of animals on a particular section. Volunteers enable the animal carers to achieve more in their work day, such as providing more enrichment to our animals, carrying out more behavioral observations and interacting with more visitors.

WHAT DO THEY LOOK FOR IN A VOLUNTEER?
– People who enjoy working in a team.
– A willingness to learn.
– Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
– Reliability.

WHAT CAN THEY OFFER IN RETURN?
– Gain experience within the zoo industry of animal husbandry and enhance your CV with hands-on experience.
– Try something new and gain new experiences.
– Meet like-minded people.

They currently have the following positions available:

• General: This section covers the widest variety of animals, from invertebrates to tropical birds, reptiles to small livestock. Minimum volunteer age 16 years.
• Middle: This section houses the large and small carnivores. Minimum volunteer age 18 years.
• Primate: This section houses the collection of lemurs, monkeys & gibbons. Minimum volunteer age 16 years.
• Sea Lions: This section houses sea lions and penguins. Minimum volunteer age 18 years.
