Dr Ajaikumar – Mysuru Today

Mysuru, July 30:- Whatever path we choose is more important than the end, the end certainly does not justify the means, said Dr B S Ajaikumar, executive chairman, Healthcare Global Enterprises and chairman, Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology.

Sharing his own experience and journey on what is required to be a good entrepreneur, why only a few in the world become entrepreneurs and what it takes to be entrepreneurs after inaugurating the two-day state-level inter-collegiate commerce and management fest ‘Vidwath’ 2k22 organised by Vidyavardhaka First Grade College on Friday (July 29), he said, “Never bow your head in front of injustice, always go for the right thing however difficult it is. When I was to start Bharath Cancer Hospital in Mysuru, there were a lot of hurdles but I didn’t bow to any pressure. Getting electricity was also a problem and the department expected a bribe but I didn’t give any bribe and we ran the show with a generator for one year. Later, we got electricity without paying any bribe. During the course, including my father and brother, after seeing the problem, they wanted me to go back to the United States where more than 50 doctors were working under me. But I took it as a challenge and managed to start the hospital in 1989. One of the things as an entrepreneur, you always question the system, when somebody says it is not possible, I always say it is possible”.

He said, “As an entrepreneur, the risk is very much as you have to invest. A lot of people give free advice but we should be determined. If you want to be an entrepreneur, the risk you take, the family should also take because if you do well the family also prospers. As an entrepreneur, you are establishing your dream. The country also benefits as we are paying the tax. To be a successful entrepreneur, one needs to unravel the mystery and be ready to ask ‘Why and What,’ these two words will really help you to prosper. There is nothing like not doable and ‘out of the box’ thinking is what an entrepreneur is required to do. Though we have enormous talent in our country where people from India head Google, Microsoft and other such top firms, including top doctors and engineers working in various hospitals and IT firms in various countries; we have all the required facilities to nurture more such talent, still if our people go abroad suddenly they prosper. So I need to unravel the mystery; hence, I am writing a book on ‘India Unbound.’

He also called upon the students to go through the book “Era of darkness” written by Shashi Tharoor.

Gundappa Gowda, president; P Vishwanath, secretary; Srishaila Ramannavar, treasurer of Vidyavardhaka Sangha; Marigowda, principal, Vidyavardhaka First Grade College; T Nagaraju, chairman, VVFGC; Nirmala K Murthy, COO, HCG Bharath Cancer Hospital were also present. (MR)
