Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) has made it to the top 50 universities in the World Universities with Real Impact (WURI) ranking.
In the 2022 WURI ranking, Canadian University of Bangladesh ranked 44th in the “Fourth Industrial Revolution”’ category for the innovation and impact of the Department of Shipping and Maritime Science, according to a press release issued on Sunday.
Overall, the university ranks between 201 and 300 among all universities in the world.
In this project, the technique of applying fourth-generation artificial intelligence in shipping has been chosen. An algorithm has been developed, that enables the safe navigation of ships in waterways without human intervention. It is capable of ensuring the safety of waterways as well as risk monitoring or determining what to do in emergency situations.
WURI’s Founding Director and Seoul National University Professor Emeritus Hwy-Chang Moon congratulated the Canadian University of Bangladesh on receiving this honour.
Hwy-Chang Moon said in an e-mail to the vice-chancellor of Canadian University of Bangladesh Professor Dr HM Jahirul Haque: “We believe your expertise and innovative programs are worthy of being shared with other educational institutions. That is why we request you to share your improved or new innovative programs with WURI in the coming year as well.”
The chairman of the Board of Trustees of the university Dr Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat congratulated the Canadian University of Bangladesh on this global recognition.

These projects have multifaceted effects at national and international levels and WURI has honoured our efforts with global recognitions.”
The department was launched at the Canadian University of Bangladesh under the guidance of Dr Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat for the expansion of Shipping and Maritime Science education in Bangladesh. At present, teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels is going on in this department.
