GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Family and friends gathered Tuesday for Grand Rapids Public Schools graduation ceremony for Innovation Central High School and Grand Rapids Montessori at Houseman Field.
There were 194 graduates, not including those from alternative education programs, 170 from Innovation Central and 24 from the Montessori program. The May 17 event was the district’s second graduation of seven this spring.
The valedictorian for Grand Rapids Montessori Ryan Leggett and the valedictorian for Innovation Central Jonatan Centeno. Each of them gave speeches during the graduation ceremony along with Innovation Central’s salutatorian Manuel Gomez Diaz.
“You made it through the toughest part of a global pandemic, and you’re still here. I’m proud of that,” Grand Rapids Innovation Central Principal Jason McGhee said during the ceremony.
Grand Rapids Public Schools Superintendent Leadriane Roby and Grand Rapids Montessori Principal Kerri Reed also made remarks.
The district rescheduled the Wednesday, May 18 Ottawa Hills High School and Museum High School graduations due to the rainy weather. Those will be held on Tuesday, May 22 at Houseman Field at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
The other graduations scheduled at Houseman Field include: University Preparatory Academy at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 19 and Union High School at 7:30 p.m. and City High/Middle School on Wednesday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m.
