A Moment with the Mayor: Economic growth

The City of Lloydminster came to be from humble beginnings of trade between people as pioneers headed west seeking adventure and fortune, leading to the creation of our community and our place as a regional economic leader. Many people have shared their thoughts and ideas about why Lloydminster has grown and continues to grow and attract investment from businesses large and small.

This city is fortunate to be home to many entrepreneurs who continue to create and strike out on their own and become businesses that meet our world’s needs. From a clothing line to mining Bitcoin and everything in between, Lloydminster businesses continue to expand and diversify.

For many businesses, agriculture has played a key role in their growth. Responding to the agricultural community’s needs has been a necessary component of expansion. The oil and gas industry has provided limitless business opportunities. It has resulted in incredible world-renowned innovation as our city engages the industry, provides solutions, and contributes to our clean energy. All industries in our society have come to rely on banking and professional services, an area that continues to grow and respond to needs.

We are also blessed to have a number of resources available to assist budding entrepreneurs with opportunities to access knowledge, support and capital to help make their dreams a reality. Community Futures and StartUp Lloydminster are two excellent groups that help provide mentorship, planning, resources and connections. These groups provide a multitude of resources and services to support those venturing into the business world or needing some extra assistance.

The City of Lloydminster Economic Development team continues to help local businesses to maintain and grow their market share. Think Lloyd First, an initiative supported by the Lloydminster Chamber of Commerce, Lloyd Construction Association, Lakeland College, StartUp Lloyd, and others, has recently helped local businesses stand out through some very challenging times.

The Economic Development team continues to connect new business opportunities with various parts of our community as we look to attract further investment, emphasizing continued red tape reduction. We are delighted to see continued and growing interest in Lloydminster as a centre for investment, new business development and business expansion. These signs all point in a positive direction for our city and a future of continued economic growth for everyone in our region.

Thank you again for supporting all the businesses in our community and surrounding area.

Mayor Gerald S. Aalbers
City of Lloydminster
